Shay Mitchell is Filipina heritage, and her father has Scottish/Irish origins. Mitchell's cousin has the name of Lea Salonga who is a popular musical theater actor and actress. As a child, Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary after which she transferred to West Vancouver Secondary School. She had already modeled around the globe by her late teens. The trip took her to Barcelona Bangkok Hong Kong before getting back to Toronto and pursuing her studies in modeling in Toronto.
